The Triborough Trio is a unique new acoustic group comprised of cello, guitar and bass working out of New York City. They first performed together while teaching at Mark O’Connor’s heralded San Diego String Conference in 2006. Trio members Mike Block (cello), Hans Holzen (guitar) and Kyle Kegerreis (bass) have all performed with O'Connor's American String Celebration Ensemble, a group with the stated purpose of showcasing the finest young string players in America. Mike has been a long time member of Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble and Darol Anger's Republic of Strings while Hans and Kyle have established themselves as in-demand side men with long running tenures in the Carrie Rodriguez Band and Mark O'Connor's Hot Swing. As the Triborough Trio they have performed across the U.S. and established a sold-out residency of shows in the West Village of New York City. They are frequently joined by special guests, most often the Grammy-nominated fiddler Darol Anger.
The mission of the Trio is to put their personal spin on traditional and contemporary music while mixing and matching American string band styles with music from around the globe. Always drawing upon their individual backgrounds rooted strongly in Classical, Country, and Jazz they reinvent their various influences with well-crafted and creative arrangements while featuring cello as the lead instrument possibly for the first time ever in many of these genres.
